For some people understanding how backlinks can greatly improve your sites’ presence on the web can be a confusing topic. So based on that I wanted to talk a bit today about backlinks and how they can boost your web presence. These ideas will also play a role as you do your keyword research and if you haven’t seen our tutorial on that here at 21stcenturymarking.org then just look under the SEO category and you’ll find it there.

Backlinks are simply links placed on a website that point back to yours. Not all backlinks are created equal some are Nofollow and some are not. More about that in another post. But in essence having backlinks is a good thing because it tells the search engines, “Hey this website is cool, come check it out”. It helps to give your site some value and when google sees that your site has some value you’ll be rewarded with a better ranking.

The backlinks you want are the ones that are NOFollow free. These are the kind that you will get some google love. But the problem is how to find blogs that are like this? It took me a long time to figure it out until I came across a site that really helped me understand alot about backlinking strategies and so if you really want to learn about linking strategies then I highly suggest you check out the http://linkbuildingbible.com/

The easiest way to find Nofollow blogs is to type the following into google.

“Comments links could be nofollow free” or

“Enable CommentLuv which will try and parse your last blog post, please be patient while it finds it for you”

This is because of 2 wordpress plugins Comment Luv and NoFollow. These plugins are designed to do exactly that, enable other bloggers to comment on each others posts without the NoFollow tag. Of course this leaves bloggers open to possible spam so I suggest leaving all comments moderated this way that’ll cut down on the spammies.

To insure that you get love back in return i.e in the way of backlinks be sure to leave good comments, something of value, other then, Great post, thanks L8tr. This kind of stuff will only get you flagged as a spammy type. It only takes a few moments to actually read the comments from others and the post so leave somethig that will add value to author’s post and in return you’ll be rewarded with a precious backlink.

There’s still so much more to learn about backlinks like internal linking etc, so again check out the other posts here at 21stcenturymarketing and get out there and make some links.
